Seve Ballesteros tops Ryder vote

SEVE Ballesteros has been chosen as the most popular Ryder Cup golfer in the tournament's history by UK golf fans.Nine times a player and once a victorious captain on Spanish soil, Ballesteros earned 32 per cent of the votes ahead of Sir Nick Faldo (25 per cent) and this week's captain Colin Montgomerie (14 per cent).

Ballesteros was also deemed the best European Ryder Cup captain in history in the poll conducted by the Ryder Cup Madrid 2018 bid.

The 53-year-old, a patron of the bid, is still recovering from the brain operations he had after the discovery of a tumour in 2008, but said: "It is extremely humbling for me to see the support I have from golf fans in the United Kingdom and a great honour to be chosen as their favourite Ryder Cup player."
